Hello and welcome,

I'm an Assistant Professor of Text and Computational Linguistics at the Faculty of Philology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). With my academic journey beginning with my postgraduate studies in Natural Language Processing at UMIST in Manchester, I have always been fascinated by the mechanics of language and the algorithms that can decipher it.

My career took me through a patchwork of research experiences, from the SFB 471 project: "Variation and Development in the Lexicon" in Germany to teaching Computational Linguistics across several Greek universities. In 2010, my academic path led me back to AUTH, where I have been nurturing the next generation of linguists and language engineers.

My passion for programming is an integral part of my research. Whether it's scripting in Python to analyze linguistic patterns or leveraging Julia's capabilities for high-performance algorithmic processing, these languages are my tools for sculpting data into meaningful insights.

From 2020 until August 2023, I also directed a project on second language acquisition, which was a testament to my commitment to applying computational techniques to understand language learning processes.

My research publications, often revolving around computational semantics and pragmatics, as well as corpus linguistics, are not just professional milestones—they reflect my enduring curiosity about the digital and textual facets of human communication.

On Medium, I explore two main writing paths:

1) Diving deep into the intricacies of language data and computational methods, while sharing my coding experiences with Julia, R, and Python.

2) Unpacking the capabilities, limitations, and less obvious facets of Generative AI, particularly in educational settings and digital humanities.

Whether you're curious about the technical side of language and data, or interested in how AI is shaping education and the humanities, you'll find insights here. If these topics resonate with you, you've come to the right place!
